Half day trip Ulefoss “Culture and history by the canal”

Experience the Telemark canal and industrial history in one day! From Ulefoss lock you get on the canal bus which takes you to Lunde lock; the heart of the Telemark canal. In Lunde you embark on one of the historic canal ships. This trip takes you through the Vrangfoss lock system, the largest lock facility in the Telemark Canal. While in the locks you get to see the lock guards in action opening and closing the massive lock doors, an attraction you will find only here. The journey down the historic waterway will give you panoramic views of beautiful scenery.

Tuesday to Fridays: (Fridays after 10.09)
- Kl. 12.10 attendance at Ulefoss lock bus stop, approx. 100 meters before the Ulefoss locks.
- Kl. 12.26 departure with Vy, line 103, from Ulefoss locks bus stop.
- Kl. 12.45 arrival at Lunde lock.
- Kl. 13.20 departure with M/S Henrik Ibsen from Lunde lock.
- Kl. 15.20 arrival at Ulefoss locks.
- Kl. 15.45 Guided tour at Øvre Verket.
- Kl. 16.15 2-course menu at Spiseriet Restaurant.

Saturdays and Sundays (Sundays after 10.09)
- Kl. 12.05 attendance at Ulefoss locks bus stop, approx. 100 meters before the Ulefoss locks.
- Kl. 12.22 departure with the canal buss from Ulefoss locks bus stop.
- Kl. 12.50 arrival at Lunde lock.
- Kl. 13.25 departure with M/S Henrik Ibsen from Lunde lock.
- Kl. 15.20 arrival at Ulefoss locks.
- Kl. 15.45 Guided tour at Øvre Verket.
- Kl. 16.15 2-course menu at Spiseriet Restaurant.

Practical information on board:

Parking:
Your car can be parked at the parking lot at Ulefoss locks free of charge.
While driving from Ulefoss center, the parking lot is reached about 200 meters before the locks.
It is marked with a parking sign (a large “P”) and the symbol for the Telemark Canal (a boat in a lock). There is a short walking distance to the bus stop, about 100 meters.

Meals on board:
There is a restaurant on board.
You can order food directly at the boat from their menu without prebooking.
It is not possible to book a table for the entire journey, and you can’t bring you own food on board

Practical information about Øvre Verket:

Guided tour:
Once you disembark at Ulefoss locks, you will be met by the guide who will take you past Ulefoss Ironworks before you reach Øvre Verket.
During the walk the guide will tell you about the area and the local history.
This is an easy walk on mainly asphalt and gravel, and it’s just 10 minutes.
PS: The guiding will be in Norwegian!

Dining:
At Spiseriet Restaurant at Øvre Verket you will be served a 2-course menu, included one beverage (choose between a glass of wine, beer, or mineral water).
Child menu consists of pommes frites with hot dog or chicken nuggets, juice, and an ice cream.

Øvre Verket:
Øvre Verket is a collection of listed workers’ housing that offers a gift shop, exhibitions, and local crafts.
Ulefoss is known as the oldest industrial site in Norway, and during your tour you will hear about what it was like for a worker at Ulefoss Jernværk to live here, amongst other things.

Adult from 16 years: From NOK 1455,- to 1570,- per adult.
Children 4-15 years: From NOK 528,- to NOK 605,- per child.
Children 0-3 years: Free of charge
